What Is Early Orthodontic Treatment?
Early orthodontic treatment, also called Phase I treatment, is designed for children between the ages of 7 and 11. By addressing jaw growth, bite issues, and spacing concerns early, we can often prevent more complex and invasive treatment later. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends all children have an evaluation by age 7.
Who It's For
- Children ages 7–11 with emerging bite problems
- Kids with crowding, spacing, or crossbites
- Children with thumb-sucking habits affecting teeth
- Those with early or delayed loss of baby teeth
- Children who have difficulty chewing or speak with a lisp
Who It's Not For
- Teenagers or adults needing comprehensive treatment
- Children under 7 without any orthodontic concerns
- Patients needing only routine dental care
